A key to Perfect Soups - Best Recipes (India Network)

Take stock the next time you walk through the soup aisle at your local grocery store. Soup can be good and healthy food. It can be a tasty way to add healthy beans, legumes, grains and vegetables to your diet. It's a convenient, yet inexpensive way to add protein, vitamins, minerals and fiber to your diet. And soup is both comforting and filling--a hot, savory bowl can help take the chill out of the fall and winter seasons. Want more reasons to ladle up?

Soup may curb your appetite - Studies show that people who eat broth or vegetable-based soups (not creamy or high-fat ones) as the first course of a meal consume fewer total calories during their meal. In fact, study participants consumed 20% fewer calories when they started their meal with soup!

Soup can help you slow down - Eating a bowl of soup involves spooning, slurping, smelling, tasting, chewing, and swallowing. This helps you slow down your eating time instead of inhaling your food. Slower eaters tend to notice signs of fullness sooner and consume fewer calories by better enjoying their food in the moment.

Soup stimulates the senses - These warm concoctions have unique aromas, tastes, enjoyable temperatures and visual interest, which add to the pleasure you experience when eating.

While some nutrients are lost when making soup, they are still a great source of vitamins and other nutrients if they're properly prepared. Here are a few tips to retain maximum vitamin content:

Use fresh veggies as soon as possible as they lose vitamins as they age. Don't defrost frozen veggies to avoid losing any vitamins in the frozen liquid surrounding them. Wherever possible keep the skin on veggies as these contain the majority of the nutrients.

While chopping veggies finely will cut down on the cooking time and avoid them losing vitamins in the pot, it will also cause the veggies to lose nutrients on the cut surface. For this reason, you should use the veggies as soon as they're chopped up. Short cooking times are better than long, slow ones, as more of the nutrients can be retained in the pot. Let us discuss a healthy soup recipe.

Enjoy Great Recipes with cheesy Tomato Paste and Pizza Sauce (Admiral Foods)

Seems yummy? It is. Even the words like pizza sauce and tomato paste are mouth-watering. If you are a food buff and love to try out different recipes using different ingredients, this stuff is simply outstanding to add up to the taste.

Well, pizza sauce is a common garnishing ingredient for pizzerias. Whether you're making pizza at home or baking the frozen one, few sprinkles of pizza sauce will suffice to add up to flavor.

These are available readymade though, you can also try it at home. For people looking forward to cut costs, it is rather better option to make instant pizza sauce.

Homemade Pizza Sauce with Tomato Paste
The sauce can be made from myriad of tomato products from canned tomatoes to crushed tomatoes to fresh tomatoes. You can resort to the easiest one and save yourself the fuss, simple use tomato paste.

You can easily find the paste in the market in small cans. It costs very low and tastes very bold which, I feel, is some of the virtues. To turn the paste into pizza sauce, add dried herbs like parsley, rosemary, oregano etc. Parsley is the perfect to start though. Now, add crushed pepper flakes, garlic flakes and salt. You can also add a pinch of sugar, depending on your taste.

The next step is, to add liquids. There are many options to choose from:

* White wine vinegar - adds tart and crisp flavor
* Olive oil- adds sheen to the sauce
* Balsamic vinegar- for a bold flavor
* Water - doesn't add any flavor but gives you the consistency you desire.

In usual 1/4 to 1 cup addition of liquid will give you the desired consistency. If you want it to spread easily, adding more of olive oil will be helpful. Once you are done with this, add spices to adjust to the liquid levels. Add more salt and pepper and taste. With this, your instant pizza sauce is ready to use. You can use right away or keep it in refrigerator for a couple of hours so that the taste develops further. The choice is yours!

You can try it out and share your experiences with friends and family. One thing is sure though, making the sauce at home is very simple with no extra efforts required. Try it out and add flavor to your dishes.

In fact, tomato paste is a multipurpose agent. Adding just basic ingredients, you can make it fit to be added to different cuisines including Greek, Thai and of course, Italian. Store simple tomato paste and add different spices as and when required. All the best for your cooking experiments!

Selecting and Storing Fruit to Use In Summer Party Food Recipes (Twistson Snacks)

One thing we most look forward to in the summer is eating fresh seasonal foods, especially fruit. The colors, textures, and flavors of these juicy sweet goodies can make your summer party food recipes even better. But knowing how to select and store fruits properly can have some people scratching their heads.

While summer fruits can be eaten as is, used in salads, or to make smoothies, salsas, pies and tarts, their limited "shelf life" can be tricky. We pulled together a guide on selecting and storing these gems and have included some great party snack food recipes using fruit.

Let's take a look at the more popular, or common summer fruit choices. While most fruits are available year-round thanks to global shipping, when describing peak availability and freshness, summer fruits are those that are considered 'in season' from mid-June to late September.

Blackberries: Choose berries that are firm and plump, then store at room temperature or refrigerate in a single layer. These need to be used within a day or two. Wash when ready to eat.

Cherries: The stems should be flexible and green. The fruit should not have any splits, or any soft spots. They can keep at room temperature for several days, but will last longer when refrigerated. Do not remove the stems, as this will cause rapid deterioration.

Honeydew melon: Look for smooth green-ish skin and the absence of bruises. If the melon is not quite ripe, keep it in a paper bag at room temperature for 2-3 days. Once ripe, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for up to 5 days.

Mangoes: Mangoes should have a yellow- red skin and should yield a bit when pressed. The smaller ones are typically better. Store mangoes at room temperature.

Peaches: These should have a noticeable sweet scent. Select peaches that have some give, but are not mushy or hard. Leave the soft or bruised ones alone. They can keep at room temperature for a few days or for longer in the refrigerator.

Strawberries: Pick strawberries that have a good red color and the green stems in place. The smaller ones tend to have much better flavor. Keep them refrigerated in a single layer for up to two days.

Watermelon: A ripe watermelon will give a bit to pressure at the stem end and will have a sweet scent. Store these at room temperature for 2-3 days, but refrigerate after cutting.

Here are some simple party food recipes using fruit:

1 Tbs vegetable oil

Celebrate the Fourth with All American Appetizer Recipes (Twistson Snacks)

When the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4th, 1776 it not only set in motion our path to establishing this great country, it also triggered an annual day of celebration for Americans for centuries to come. As you plan your holiday cookout, we encourage you to think healthy and to think all-American when choosing appetizer recipes.

Lighten Up

If you're planning a party for the fourth, you may be thinking red, white, and blue food. Or you may be headed down the traditional route of burgers and hot dogs on the grill. These are American traditions that certainly have a place in the celebration of liberty. But, if you want to liberate yourself from the usual, or to free yourself from the heavy calorie- laden party food and appetizer recipes, then we have some tips for you.

Keep it light so that you can participate in that sack race, or feel comfortable in that bathing suit you'll be wearing poolside for the cookout. Substitute healthy ingredients in some of your favorite recipes.

Altering favorites

Corn Dogs are a favorite, especially with kids. Try using a lean version of dog, like a turkey dog. Instead of frying, bake until the cornbread batter gets firm. You can cut them in pieces if you're looking for an appetizer recipe.

Potato salad doesn't need heavy mayonnaise; use a light mayo mixed with fat-free sour cream, then add some relish and seasoning to give it some punch.

Potato chips are typically fried in lots of oil. Try making your own. Cut thin slices of potatoes, brush with canola oil or even canola cooking spray, then bake.

Mini burgers, also known as sliders, are a great appetizer recipe. Shrink the standard All-American burger to something people can eat in a couple of bites. This gives you the flavor of this favorite cookout fare without all of the calories. Turkey-burgers are great for this recipe too. Simply grill, then pop on slider buns and let people dress their own.

Fruit skewers are a refreshing appetizer to serve in the heat of a summer cookout. You could also serve them as a healthy alternative to desserts like cheesecake or pie. Slide some blueberries, strawberries, and pineapple on long toothpicks and provide some vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Travel the country by offering some favorites from the 50 states. Here are some All-American eats from Delish you can choose from.

It may be the American way to over- indulges at a party, but you can enjoy the festivities on the 4th of July without feeling guilty the next day. Tweaking appetizer recipes, grilled favorites, and desserts so that they are a bit leaner and healthier provides a whole new sense of freedom.

Happy Independence Day!

Egg yolks are known primarily for their high cholesterol content. But the medical research community has learned that dietary cholesterol is a different measure than blood level of cholesterol, which is associated with increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Egg yolks also contain two carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect against vision loss. , eggs are packed with vitamins A, D, E, B2, B6, B9, iron, calcium, phosphorous, potassium and choline. Eggs promote healthy hair and nails because of their high sulphur content and wide array of vitamins and minerals. Many people find their hair growing faster after adding eggs to their diet, especially if they were previously deficient in foods containing sulphur or B12.
According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease. In fact, according to one study, regular consumption of eggs may help prevent blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks. Juice of 2 whole lemons
2 sticks butter, melted and slightly cooled

2 English muffins split, toasted and buttered

4 slices Canadian bacon, warmed in a skillet
Dash of paprika

Next, poach an egg by gently cracking an egg into simmering, slightly bubbling water.

Leave the egg alone for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes, and then remove it with a slotted spoon and carefully place it on a plate. Repeat with the remaining eggs.

Easy Snack Recipes to Send Overseas - Or Anywhere! (Twistson Snacks)

It's hard when loved ones are away for long periods of time. You want to comfort them, or remind them of home. For many of us, food is love, so sending food to a dear friend or family member is a great way show you care. Unfortunately though, not all foods travel well. What you need are easy snack recipes that you can ship anywhere.

Whether you are sending a child off to camp, or to college, or you have a relative in the armed forces consider sending a "care" package. Obviously you won't want to put in anything that would spoil or get smashed. Prepackaged foods are fine, especially if they keep well over time and won't go bad in extreme heat. But if you truly want to send them a taste of home, send something homemade.

Ideas
With Armed Forces Day coming up this weekend, let's focus on items that will ship well to military personnel around the world. These ideas are also good for anyone you know that is living on another continent. It can take a long time for packages to reach overseas. They may also go through some rough handling and extreme temperatures. Here is a list of items that will fare well on their long-distance journey abroad.

* Snack mixes: cereals, crackers, and pretzels are easy to munch on and can withstand all the challenges of shipping. Be sure to fill a container tightly so they don't rattle around and break into tiny pieces. Don't add dried fruit to the mix, pack those separately and make sure that they ares in a factory- sealed package.

Here's a recipe for Super Snack Mix that doesn't contain any perishable items:
1Cup canola oil
1 jar Butter oil (Orville Redenbacher)
2 packages dry ranch dressing mix
1 box JWM Macy's CheeseCrisps
2 bags oyster crackers
1 bag chow mein noodles
1 bag crunchy Cheetos
2 cans mixed nuts
1 box Crispix cereal

Mix all the ingredients in a large bag. Bake at 250 degrees for 45 minutes, stirring a few times. This makes a huge batch that can be shared.

* Beef jerky: You can purchase this in any grocery store and it will last for a very long time.

* Baked Goods: If you want to send cookies, stack them and roll them tightly in tin foil, then place the 'cookie log' in a sturdy container so they don't crumble. You can also try placing them in a potato chip canister, or for larger cookies try a tennis ball can.
* These Chocolate Shortbread Cookies will travel well because they are hard. Unlike soft chewy cookies that can dry out if shipping takes more than one week, these will hold up to traveling.
* Not much of a baker? Try sending these crisp, sweet and all natural SweetSticks.

* Seasonings: Military cafeteria food can be bland, so ship a package of seasoning mix to be added to the boring stuff they may be getting.

* Candied or Spiced Nuts: These tasty tidbits will keep well, especially if sealed tightly. You can provide containers of both savory and sweet nuts to cover any craving. Here's an easy snack recipe we found on Squidoo.
Sugar-coated pecans
1 egg white
1 Tbs water
1 pound pecan halves
1 cup white sugar
? tsp salt
? tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 250 degrees, grease baking sheet. Mix egg white and water in a bowl until frothy. In separate bowl mix sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add pecans to egg whites and stir to coat evenly. Remove nuts and toss them in sugar mixture until coated. Spread on baking sheet and cook for 1 hour - stirring every 15 minutes.

The extras
Imagine opening a package of delicious food and also finding all the accessories you might need. Pack small plates, bowls, napkins, zip-lock bags and other items that will help them eat the easy snack recipes, and allow them to save any 'leftovers'.

So, send them food and send them love. It is a gift that will please anyone away from home.

Kick Off Summer With Fresh Seafood Appetizer Recipes (Twistson Snacks)

The days begin to warm, and the nights follow suit as summer lays ahead. While the thermometer in your home town may not be screaming summer is almost here, today's celebration of Victoria Day in Canada and next week's Memorial Day holiday in the US signal the coming of summer. What better way to greet the season than with fresh seafood appetizer recipes at your next gathering?

As things heat up, people enjoy lighter fare. With doctors recommending we add more seafood to our diet, serving up a taste of the ocean should be the wave of the summer. Thoughts of the sand and the surf call to us this time of year. But, if a trip to the shore isn't on your agenda, take a little trip with bite-sized seafood treats.

Seafood safety
You may worry that serving seafood can be tricky. After all, it needs to be fresh and kept cool. With proper planning, and proper handling, you have nothing to worry about. Once you've determined your menu of seafood appetizer recipes, do your shopping no more than one or two days before the event. Keep everything refrigerated immediately after preparing, and serve on chilled platters or over ice.
Here's a great product to protect cold items from Tropix.

(For information on the safe purchasing and handling of seafood, read these important tips from the FDA.)

Great ideas
You may not want to serve seafood exclusively, but your next party should have a variety of seafood dishes for people to choose. We found several unique recipes that includes several types of shellfish and a fish dip.

First up are these Coconut-Poached Shrimp Tostadas. The combination of shrimp, pineapple and guacamole is refreshing.

Next, put these Mini Lobster Rolls out and watch them disappear.

Round out the shellfish selection with these Mini Asian Crab Cakes, these bite-sized morsels are easy to eat and have a bit of kick from Wasabi.

Have guests that are allergic to shellfish? Here's a Smoked Salmon Dip that is simple, yet delicious.

You may also get adventurous and want to fry up your own homemade fish-sticks, or grill skewers of shrimp or sturdy, meaty swordfish. The nice thing about fresh seafood is that simple marinades or seasoning is all you need to complete the dish. No overpowering spices or sauces needed - let the taste of the seafood shine through.

The accompaniment
The best thing to serve with your fresh seafood appetizers are crisp white wines or light cocktails.
Shellfish pairs well with light selections like Vouvray, Champagne, even off-dry Gewurztraminer.
White fish calls for a White Burgundy (made from Chardonnay.) According to foodandwine, salmon, while typically served with white wine, works well with a lighter red like Pinot Noir.

As for cocktails, there are really no recommended pairings, but if people don't care for wine, serve a light, refreshing adult beverage like this "Afterglow".
2 ounces vodka
1 ounce Cointreau
Splash of lavender syrup
Blackberry garnish
Pour first 3 ingredients in an ice filled shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with blackberry

So pop a tasty bit of seafood into your mouth and close your eyes. Imagine you hear the sound of the surf, smell the salt water mixed with the scent of sunscreen, and feel your toes in the wet sand. Welcome summer.
